Following shocking revelations the 2025 Austenasian coup attempt was a conspiracy collectively orchestrated by Austenasia's founder, current and former Prime Ministers and other eminent persons, Governing Commissioner Hugh McFarlane has taken the emergency step of proclaiming the Republic of New South Scotland as the legal successor to the Crown Dependency.

Under carefully drafted enabling legislation, McFarlane will serve as Provisional President until such time as a new constitution can be proclaimed. According to the New South Scottish Government, efforts will also be made to recruit new citizens within the Australia and New Zealand regions.

In a statement to the Gazette, McFarlane expressed his "profound disappointment that efforts by New South Scotland and the Ministry of Justice to preserve the integrity of Austenasia and its legal system were, in fact, being taken advantage of by manipulative and dishonest elements to 'revitalise' Austenasia".

According to the Provisional President, New South Scotland will now strive to chart its own course as an independent republic within the Australian region. Already, the Office of the Provisional President has confirmed Grand Unified Micronational membership is a likelihood, following talks with a number of esteemed powerbrokers within the community at large.

In spite of the tragic note on which New South Scotland's time within Austenasia has ended, the Republic looks forward to a hopeful future, free of instability and intrigue. Long live our Republic, from 2012 to 2025 and beyond!
